An ambulance service clinician is taking to the skies for his first wing walk on an aeroplane to raise money for charity.

Alex Fogarty, 22, an Emergency Medical Technician, is undertaking the feat for the London Ambulance Service charity on Friday (10 July). The charity raises money to fund life-saving defibrillators, CPR training, and wellbeing initiatives for LAS staff.

Alex signed up for this challenge as he says he is always wanting to ‘get out of my comfort zone’. But Alex knows the fundraising effort which sees him strapped to a plan travelling at over 120mph over the Kent countryside is also for an important cause.

He said:

“Even now, the ambulance service continues to take me outside my comfort zone. No two shifts are ever the same, and I’m constantly faced with new situations that push me to adapt and grow.

“Taking part in this wing walk is definitely taking myself outside my comfort zone while raising money for vital public access defibrillators across London. I’ve seen firsthand the incredible difference this life-saving equipment can make in giving someone the best chance of survival.”

Colleagues from his base at Westminster ambulance station and friends will be there to watch Alex when he heads to the heavens.

Jess Burgess, head of the London Ambulance Charity, said:

“Alex is so brave! We are truly inspired by his fundraising challenge, and it is so encouraging to hear from the frontline how our work with providing more public access defibrillators and CPR training helps patients in emergencies. His passion is greatly appreciated.”
