Make waves this summer and join Dragon Boat Racing to help save lives

London Ambulance Charity is calling on adventurous Londoners to swap dry land for an unforgettable afternoon on the water when its annual Dragon Boat Race returns this summer.

Set against the backdrop of Surrey Quays on 16 July, London Ambulance Charity’s fundraising event invites teams to paddle hard to the beat of drums and make a real difference.

Money will directly fund life-saving equipment, CPR training, and improve the wellbeing of London Ambulance staff and volunteers.

Last year, the atmosphere was electric as the ambitious teams – including local businesses, tech companies and London Ambulance Service staff – battled it out on the water.

Among them was Montgomery Group’s triumphant team, Row Farah, whose victory marked a dramatic turnaround after they capsized in the final the previous year.

Nicola Macdonald, PR Director at Montgomery Group, said:

“The Dragon Boat Race was a really enjoyable day out raising money for a great cause. It was an incredibly valuable way for our team to come together and have a fun day out while contributing to a charity doing vital work for the city.

“I’d really encourage other companies to get involved this summer!”

Jess Burgess, Head of London Ambulance Charity, added:

“Whether you’re looking for team-building adventures for your colleagues or just looking for a fun day out with your friends, this event promises to be an exciting afternoon of adrenaline fuelled action.

“The sport requires teamwork, communication and coordination and will be a great chance to bring people together and really bond over Herculean efforts!”

Dating back more than 2,000 years to ancient China, Dragon Boat Racing is steeped in tradition. The striking boats – complete with dragon heads, scales and tails – are crewed by 10 paddlers and a drummer who sets the rhythm, as teams race over thrilling 200-metre sprints.

Strength alone won’t win the day. Success belongs to the teams who move as one, synchronising their paddles and working together in perfect harmony.

The event is fully inclusive and we welcome participants of all abilities – no prior experience is required.
