London Ambulance Service Statement on the use of suction-based airway clearing devices on choking individuals
London Ambulance Service would like to make the public aware of several social media videos and images in circulation that are falsely implying our endorsement for anti-choking devices.
The public should be aware that there is a UK Government product recall as a result of counterfeit anti-choking devices.
Footage and images belonging to London Ambulance Service have been doctored and used in these videos without our consent. This is a copyright breach and we have requested that this content is removed.
We would like to clarify that London Ambulance Service does not endorse any anti-choking devices. We fully support the Resuscitation Council UK statement on this issue, and share their concern that “the use of these devices could delay established treatments for choking”.
Please see the NHS UK website for more guidance on first aid. In a life-threatening emergency, always call 999.
