Enter the dragons: final call to make a splash for the London Ambulance Charity
The London Ambulance Charity is calling for final team entries for its annual Dragon Boat Race, which is raising money to train Londoners to save a life and fund wellbeing support for ambulance staff.
Anyone can join the challenge but time is running out to sign up for this year’s event in September. Entries close at the end of the month.
Five teams from stations and sites across London Ambulance Service have already signed up and include the Friern Floaters, the Baywatch Rejects (the B Watch team from our 999 control) and the Defib Dragons.
Sam Cox, leader of the Defib Dragons team and a Community Resuscitation Officer, said: “We will be paddling with purpose!
“Not only will the race be great fun for our team but we can support our brilliant charity that funds some of the vital work we do for the London Lifesavers Campaign – teaching life-saving skills to the public and saving lives.
“If you haven’t already signed up – get a team together and come and make a splash with us!”
The race takes place on Thursday 18 September at Surrey Quays Docks, and promises to be an adrenaline-fuelled afternoon of fun.
Each team needs 10 rowers and a drummer setting the rhythm as they compete in a series of 200 metre races.
Jessica Burgess, Head of the London Ambulance Charity, said: “The atmosphere at the Dragon Boat Race is like no other – it really is a brilliant afternoon out for team-building and bonding.
“Participants need great teamwork and communication so would be ideal for friends, families or for work colleagues.
“And no experience is needed – anyone can have a go – you just need enough people to make a team, a lot of enthusiasm and want to support a great cause – helping the crews and call handlers who work so hard to care for Londoners.”
