Community First Responders (CFRs) are London Ambulance Service volunteers who respond to 999 calls in their own car alongside ambulances.
Our CFRs are trained to use defibrillators and respond alongside us to life-threatening emergency calls in their community. They are given equipment and support and respond in their own time.

Community First Responders complete the FutureQuals Level 3 Award for First Responders on Scene: Ambulance Service Community Responder course, which is a four-day course.
After completing the recruitment process, applicants will engage in online pre-learning before attending the initial four-day course. Community First Responders commit to at least 16 operational hours each month and participate in 16 hours each year of Continuous Personal Development (CPD).

As part of the recruitment process, applicants will undertake an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, Occupational Health screening and reference checks, all of which must be passed. Once this is done, you will be offered a training course.

What if I already have FPOS-I, ASFR or other qualifications?
Those with FPOSi, ASFR or any other qualification, including FREC or military medics, still need to complete the level 3 FutureQuals training course.
Please let us know if you already have the FutureQuals Level 3 Award for First Responders on Scene: Ambulance Service Community Responders certificate by emailing a copy of the certificate and your CPD evidence of how you have maintained the qualification to [email protected] for review.
Where and how do I respond?
Community First Responders need to live in London and primarily attend 999 calls within their local community using their own car.
Are expenses covered?
Community First Responders can claim car mileage expenses when dispatched to a location.
Training, appropriate uniform and equipment required for the role will be provided.
What qualifications will I gain?
All Community First Responders complete the FutureQuals Level 3 Award for First Responders on Scene: Ambulance Service Community Responders course.
