Information on Make Ready roles at London Ambulance Service.

Our Make Ready teams work around the clock to re-stock, re-fuel, clean and deliver ambulances to stations, ensuring they are in perfect condition for the next shift. 

The Make Ready teams work from 19 stations across London and play an essential role in the daily operations of the UK’s busiest ambulance service.

You can join the team as a Technician, Hub Coordinator (supervisor) or Specialist

At the heart of the Make Ready service is our Technician team and we currently have vacancies available across London.

By working in this team, you will support the delivery of excellent clinical care for patients by ensuring the right equipment is available at the right place, at the right time, for clinical staff to use when caring for patients.

You will work under the direction of the Hub Coordinator, and be required to ensure that all vehicles are cleaned, restocked to standards and in the right location.

  • This is a Band 3 role and salaries are in line with Agenda for Change pay scales which can be found on the NHS Employers website. You will also be able to access a range of benefits listed on our benefits page.

  • Under the direction of the supervisor on shift, you will: 

    • Clean ambulances inside and out, following protocols and using appropriate equipment and cleaning chemicals.  
    • Check and restock ambulances to ensure all equipment and consumables are present, replacing any used or missing items from stores.  
    • Move ambulances to the required location for clinical crews at the start of their shift (C1 driving licence required).  
    • Record completed tasks, including vehicle movements, cleaning, refuelling, restocking and vehicle preparation.  
    • You may also be required to clean other vehicles, including Non-Emergency Transport Service (NETS) vehicles, and collect or move equipment between hospitals and ambulance stations as needed. 

  • Current vacancies are for night shifts. Shift patterns include: 

    • Thursday to Saturday, 23:00-09:00, three shifts a week 
    • Sunday to Wednesday 23:00-09:00, four shifts a week
    • A full UK manual driving licence with no more than three penalty points  
    • A valid C1 category entitlement on your licence that is valid in the UK  
    • A good standard of education, including English and maths

    The Make Ready service runs across London at various locations, most of which are also an ambulance station.

    North Central: Camden (NW3), Edmonton (N18) and Friern Barnet (N11)

    North East: Ilford (IG3), Canning Town (E16) and Becontree (RM9)

    South East: Barnehurst (DA7), Bromley (BR2), Deptford (SE14) and Oval (SW9)

    South West: Croydon (CR0), New Malden (KT3), St Helier (SM4) and Wimbledon (SW19)
