London Ambulance Service Statement on the use of suction-based airway clearing devices on choking individuals

Statement updated on 10 August 2026

London Ambulance Service would like to make the public aware of several social media videos and images in circulation that falsely imply our endorsement for counterfeit anti-choking devices that are subject to a UK Government product recall

Footage and images belonging to London Ambulance Service have been doctored and used in these videos without our consent. This is a copyright breach and we have requested that the videos are removed.

We would like to clarify that London Ambulance Service does not endorse any individual anti-choking device. We fully support the Resuscitation Council UK statement on this issue.

Please see the NHS UK website for more guidance on first aid. In a life-threatening emergency, always call 999.

Please see the Citizens Advice Bureau website for guidance on how to report fake or counterfeit goods.
