They help manage day-to-day operations, especially during busy or high-pressure periods, as well as serious, significant and major incidents. They work closely with the Tactical Operations Centre (TOC).
Our IROs act as the main Ambulance Scene Commander, providing clear and visible leadership on scene, whilst managing complex and high-risk incidents, making sure work is carried out safely and coordinating with other emergency services across the capital.
During these incidents, the team make important operational decisions to ensure that patients are treated and conveyed to the most appropriate hospital.
If needed, they manage escalating situations and communicate with our Tactical Operations Centre to ensure that incidents are managed and resourced effectively. As well as leading on important operational decisions during incidents, the team play a vital role in supporting the wellbeing of frontline staff whilst on shift.
