Public education, schools and community visits
It is important to teach our communities about the ambulance service and what to do in an emergency, so they know what to do if they need to call us one day.
Our public education team organises special events, including visits to schools, colleges, community groups and pensioners’ forums to name just a few.
Types of visits we do
We visit hundreds of schools, community groups and organisations every year and talk to thousands of people about what we do as an ambulance service in the capital city. We also collaborate with other emergency services on projects such as knife crime and road safety, and talk to our communities about careers, first aid and how to use us wisely. Here are just some of the groups we speak to every year:
- Nurseries, schools, college and sixth forms
- Rainbows, Brownies, Girl Guides, Cubs, Scouts and Beavers
- Careers events
- Hospital open days
- London Fire Brigade open days
- Summer fairs
- Pensioners’ forum
- Deaf awareness groups
- Learning disabilities groups
- Cardiac awareness events
Resources for schools
We have put together an activity pack for Key Stage 1 children which contains fun worksheets such as a wordsearch, dot-to-dot, colouring in sheets and maze game.
We’d love to hear your feedback about our worksheets so we can keep developing the pack. Please send us an email if you have any suggestions.
The public education department can try to arrange for local members of staff to visit your group or school to talk about our service and answer your questions. If you would like to arrange a visit from us, please fill out our form and tell us about your group and what you’d like us to cover during our visit. As our staff often attend our community visits in their own time, please be aware we cannot guarantee a visit to your group or school. However we will always do our best to find a team member to attend.
