Public education, schools and community visits

It is important to teach our communities about the ambulance service and what to do in an emergency, so they know what to do if they need to call us one day.Public Education Team staffing the Wellbeing café at headquarters

Our public education team organises special events including visits to schools, colleges, community groups and pensioners’ forums, to name just a few.

As a service we focus our public education on four key areas which are:

  • Health Promotion (including knife crime and drugs and alcohol)
  • BLS and First Aid
  • Careers in the LAS
  • Choose Well (how and when to use 999/111 and other healthcare services)

Types of visits we do

We visit hundreds of schools, community groups and organisations every year and talk to thousands of people about what we do as an ambulance service in the capital city. We also collaborate with other emergency services on projects such as knife crime, talking to our communities about careers, first aid and how to use us wisely by choosing well.

Here are just some of the groups we speak to every year:

The public education department can try to arrange for local members of staff to visit your group or school to talk about our service and answer your questions. If you would like to arrange a visit from us, please send an email to [email protected] and tell us about your group and what you’d like us to cover during our visit.

As our staff often attend our community visits in their own time, please be aware we cannot guarantee a visit to your group or school. However we will always do our best to find a team member to attend.

If you have any questions or would like to know more about our public education programme or our visits, please get in touch with us:
