- Training and simulation: they equip frontline staff to handle pregnancy-related emergencies and pre-hospital births, helping to improve our urgent and emergency care response.
- Pre-hospital care guidelines: the team has developed decision tools for clinicians designed to standardise assessments for pregnant and recently postpartum patients.
- Life-saving interventions: they have successfully rolled out practical innovations, such as the introduction of thermal mattresses in all vehicles to ensure newborns stay warm following unplanned pre-hospital births.
- Reducing health inequalities: in the UK, there are persistent inequalities in maternal health outcomes amongst women and birthing people from global majority backgrounds. Our Maternity and Strategy teams have undertaken engagement work with almost 200 women via Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise Organisations as well over 250 London Ambulance clinicians to agree actions to improve health outcomes for women from underserved communities, including maternity training, patient information, use of interpreters and strengthening partnerships with maternity services to ensure more joined-up care.
