Mum and daughter duo urge Londoners to conquer their fears at Charity abseil
A mum and daughter who care for the people of London are calling on brave Londoners to descend from one of the city’s most famous football stadiums to raise money for a life-saving charity.
St John Ambulance first aider Carole, 72, and Metropolitan police offer Joanne, 33, are encouraging people to take the plunge at London Ambulance Charity’s Big Stadium Abseil on Thursday 19 March.
Money raised by the 42-metre descent will fund life-saving skills and defibrillators for local communities and wellbeing support for frontline ambulance crews.
Carole, who works in Enfield and Edmonton, said: “I’ve done the abseil twice being the dare devil I am. I absolutely loved it!
“My daughter Joanne and I are both passionate about serving the people of London and ensuring that communities are equipped with the skills needed to save lives.
“We both help save lives in our jobs. I had to use CPR at two football games at the Emirates and Tottenham. We really want Londoners to feel empowered to do the same.
“We want people to feel that they have each other’s backs – like Joanne and myself do!”
All participants in the abseil will be provided with appropriate safety equipment and a full safety briefing, which will take place before they make the descent. Thrill-seekers have until Thursday 19 February to register.
Jess Burgess, Head of Charity at London Ambulance Charity, said: “Carole and Joanne are such an inspiration to us all and I would encourage Londoners to support their communities too by signing up to this exciting event. It’s for such an important cause!
“No experience is necessary. People will be safely clipped into guide ropes, given a countdown, and take one of the biggest and most rewarding steps of your life.”
A registration fee of £25 per person will apply and participants taking part in the event are asked to raise £100 for the Charity.
Participants must be at least 12 years of age to take part in the abseil.
