Following an extensive consultation with our service users, staff, staff side partners and other stakeholders, we are publishing our new equality & inclusion strategy.
This new strategy for 2010-2013 builds on the progress we have made through our separate race, disability and gender schemes. It also covers the three new additional equality strands of age, religion or belief and sexual orientation. The strategy describes how we will fulfil our obligations in regard to employment and training, service delivery, engagement and decision making and is accompanied by a comprehensive action plan, which sets out our priorities for action, highlighted by our stakeholders.
The key aims of our strategy are:
- to provide world-class health care to all our diverse patients and service users
- to become an employer of choice, attracting the best and talented people from all backgrounds, and
- to ensure our procurement practices enable us to use our buying power as a driver for promoting equality
We have recently joined all six of the leading Employers’ Equality Forums – the Employers Forums on Age, Belief and Disability, Opportunity Now, Race for Opportunity and Stonewall – underscoring our real commitment to equality of opportunity for all our staff, patients, service users and stakeholders.
Our new equality & inclusion strategy will be monitored annually and reviewed in 2013 with our stakeholders. We welcome your ongoing feedback and input.
