Paramedics on motorcycles are now responding to emergency 999 calls in the boroughs of Tower Hamlets and Hackney.
The Motorcycle Response Unit (MRU) started running out of Poplar and Shoreditch ambulance stations this week, and up to two MRU paramedics will answer emergency calls in the area from 7am to 11pm every day.
London Ambulance Service Assistant Director of Operations Jason Killens said: “The introduction of motorcycle paramedics is excellent news for the people in east London. In built-up areas motorcycle paramedics can respond to emergency 999 calls more quickly than other resources, and can assess patients and administer life-saving medical treatment while an ambulance is on the way. This dynamic response can only save more lives and increase the level of care patients receive in the area.”
