Hundreds of medical staff will be on hand at this
weekend’s Notting Hill Carnival.
The London Ambulance Service will be
co-ordinating all first aid and medical support, in partnership
with St John Ambulance, with more than 350 medical staff set to be
on duty on both days.
St John Ambulance treatment centres will be in
use while the Service’s team will include emergency care
practitioners, cycle responders, Patient Transport Service staff,
as well as ambulance crews and control room and support staff.
Performance Improvement Manager Paul Gates,
who will be overseeing medical arrangements for the Carnival, said:
“This is always a great event and we hope that everyone who attends
has a safe and enjoyable time.
“Our aim will be to treat as many people who
do need first aid at one of the treatment centres, so they don’t
have to go to hospital unless they really need to.
“Visitors to the Carnival can also help
themselves by making sure they bring with them any regular
medication, carry some suncream or waterproof clothing depending on
the weather, and also drink plenty of water.
“If there is a medical emergency, they should
dial 999 with details of the exact location where help is required
- taking note of the street name and nearest junction if they can
see it. We will also need to know the number of patients and their
age and sex, and as many details as possible about what is wrong
with them.”
