19 January 2016

London Ambulance Service has today (Tuesday 19 January) been recognised in Stonewall’s Top 100 Employers in an annual audit of workplace culture for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender staff. PrideLondon

The Service was ranked at 46th on the Index, up 16 places from 2015. It was listed as one of the top five health & social care organisations in the country as a result of its inclusive policies, equality training for staff and the continued work of an LGBT Forum, which supports colleagues who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.

Janice Markey, Equality and Inclusion Manager at London Ambulance Service, said: “It’s fantastic to see the Service recognised in the Workplace Equality Index and such an achievement to see us moving up the ranking.

“We want all of our staff to feel happy and accepted for who they are, so that they can develop to their full potential at London Ambulance Service. Our work with our LGBT forum helps us to ensure that the Service is providing an open and positive environment for all our staff and we’re proud to be included on the Index and lead the way for inclusive services for all.”

Ruth Hunt, Chief Executive, Stonewall said: “London Ambulance Service and all of those employers that secured a place in the Stonewall Top 100 Employers 2016 list performed fantastically this year.

“We have had more submissions than ever before and so making the list is a huge achievement. I’d like to thank all of those organisations for their continued efforts to ensure that their lesbian, gay, bi and transgender staff feel comfortable to bring their whole selves to work and are accepted without exception”.
