How governors are elected

When does the election process start?

The election process will start when our foundation trust application has received approval from the Secretary of State and has been forwarded to Monitor, the independent regulator. We anticipate that this will be in 2011.

An independent electoral administration organisation will run the election process and act as our returning officer. Members will vote by postal ballot.

How long will the election process take?

Publication of the notice of election   Day 1
Final day for return of nominations to the returning officer   Day 12
Final opportunity to withdraw as a candidate        Day 15
 Notice of poll        Day 25
 Close of poll     Day 40

How does the nomination process work?

Details of the nomination and voting process will be posted to each member before an election so that they can nominate themselves as an election candidate and so that they can vote for candidates within their own constituency.

Members who wish to nominate themselves to stand for election will be asked to provide some information about themselves and why they think that members would vote for them to become a governor.  Find out more about becoming a governor.
